Complete Program:
In the first episode we take you to discover Vincent Van Gogh, a Dutch painter and son of a Protestant pastor, born in Zundert on March 30, 1853 and died in Auvers-sur-Oise on July 29, 1890. As brilliant as he was misunderstood, if not despised during his lifetime, Van Gogh profoundly influenced 20th-century art; after spending several years suffering from frequent mental disorders, he died very young at the age of thirty-seven. He began painting late, at the age of twenty-seven, creating many of his best-known works during the last two years of his life. His subjects consisted of self-portraits, landscapes, still lifes of flowers, paintings with cypress trees, representations of wheat fields and sunflowers. His "Starry Night" is unforgettable.
The second episode will continue with Amedeo Clemente Modigliani, also known by the nicknames of Modì and Dedo. Born in Livorno on July 12, 1884 and died in Paris on January 24, 1920, he was an Italian painter and sculptor, famous for his sensual female nudes and portraits characterized by stylized faces, tapered necks and often absent gazes. A bohemian artist, Modigliani certainly did not disdain drinking and the use of harmful substances, thus compromising his unstable physical health already undermined by tuberculosis, which in fact led to his death at the age of only thirty-five, right at the height of his success.
In the third episode we will meet Pablo Picasso. Born in Malaga on October 25, 1881 and died in Mougins on April 8, 1973, was a world-famous Spanish painter and sculptor, considered one of the absolute protagonists of 20th-century painting. A crucial link between the 19th-century tradition and contemporary art, Picasso was an innovative and multifaceted artist who left an indelible mark on the history of world art as the founder, together with Georges Braque, of cubism. After spending a stormy youth, well expressed in the paintings of the so-called blue and rose periods, from the 1920s onwards he achieved rapid fame; Among his universally known works are Les demoiselles d'Avignon (1907) and Guernica (1937).
We will therefore close with The Marquis Salvador Dalì born in Figueres on May 11, 1904 and died in Figueres on January 23, 1989. Dalì was a Spanish painter, sculptor, writer, photographer, filmmaker, designer and screenwriter. A skilled painter and a virtuoso draftsman, he is mainly famous for the suggestive and bizarre images of his surrealist works: his peculiar touch was attributed to the influence that the masters of the Renaissance had on him. Gifted with a great imagination and a penchant for extravagant attitudes, he irritated those who loved his art and annoyed his detractors, since his eccentric ways sometimes caught more attention than his works.
